Silk and silk velvet were favourite materials for evening wear, while crÍpe de Chine, chiffon and Rodier wool were frequently used for scarves and stoles. (No. 1, 2, 3, 4) Balloon cotton from the First World War proved popular in summer for light curtains and dresses. (No. 5) Not only was the fine cotton very comfortable to wear but took dyes well, as shown in a red print of Low made up into a long-sleeved, waisted dress. (No. 6)
