The second Duke of Westminster was an early and most influential patron and the commissions Barron and Larcher received from him were to prove enormously important in introducing their work to a fashionable and wealthy clientele. Barron was first approached in 1922 by Detmar Blow, an Arts and Crafts architect and builder, acting as the Duke's agent, who commissioned Barron to produce all the materials to furnish the Duke's new yacht the Flying Cloud. (No. 1, 2) This was a huge work as the yacht had '40 cabins, each with divans, bunks and curtains, and an enormous saloon in the middle'.{11}
