No 32: Jar and cover, 1992 (P.2002.18.1-2)

A small jar with a neat drop-over dimpled lid, this example was purchased by the Crafts Study Centre direct from the potter's workshop. It is thrown in stoneware clay and bears a deep blue/green ash glaze; on the body, texture is provided by sharp parallel cuts, or flutes, running vertically into which the glaze has settled in an attractive way. The foot ring is unglazed but tinged with brown/red from the effects of firing.
