Description In the foreground appear a sheep, a hen and their respective offspring, in a pasture. The sheep has two lambs, one curled up next to her, and the other standing. The hen has seven chicks, gathered around her, with one standing a short distance away. In the distance, the roofs of cottages are just visible.

E. Verboeckhoven settled in Brussels in 1827. He fought in the War of Independence in 1830. He was made Chevalier of the Legion of Honour and of the Order of Leopold, and became a member of the Brussels Academy in 1845.
