Artist Mackintosh, Charles Rennie
Description The predominantly Romanesque Broletto (town hall) dates from 1187-1230. Its stone bell tower, the Torre del Popolo, drawn by Mackintosh, dates from the eleventh century. Mackintosh's drawing (top) does not represent the Broletto's main west front; it might be a study of part of the southern façade which it resembles to a certain extent. It is also difficult to relate the drawing of the arch at lower left to any of the arched window openings on the main west façade or within the Broletto's courtyard.
