Description Nicolaes Eliasz Pickenoy was the leading portrait painter in Amsterdam until the rise of Rembrandt in the 1630s. His smooth hard, bright technique is particularly effective for describing details of dress and textiles. His style varied only slightly. He rarely signed his paintings.
