Description Roses and tulips are arranged rather symmetrically in a bulbous glass vase which is set against a dark background. A small spray of blue and white flowers lies on the table on the right. Although a few works signed by this painter are known, details of his life and activity remain obscure. The painter displayed his skills in representing with exactness the colours, shapes and textures of the different species. This form of realism was associated with the development of botanical studies in the Dutch Republic in the seventeenth century.
