Description In this river scene, Alexis de Leeuw referred to the Dutch seventeenth-century tradition of winter landscapes with skaters. De Leeuw's rendition of the effects of the light of the winter sun on the sky and on the ice indicates that is an afternoon scene. A dome and a spire appear in the background.
