Description A portrait of Philip Monmorency around the age of 28 years old, dressed in a black tunic embroidered with gold thread. Around his waist is a belt, possibly acting as a strap for a horn, whilst a black hat decorated with gold and jewels and a large feather is atop his head. The artist has included Monmorency's coat of arms in the top left of the painting and the age of the sitter top right. Philip Monmorency was the Admiral of Flanders, but after resisting to Spanish despotic rule was executed for treason in 1568.
