Description Jan Hendrik Verheyen (1778-1846) was an artist from the Romantic period and created chiefly views of imaginary cities. In this scene of a Dutch street, all elements are present to create a Dutch town, such as the canal with a boat gliding over the water and the brick houses with their typical fašades. It was probably this image of a typically Dutch scene, without referring to an actual existing town in the Netherlands, that attracted foreign buyers.
