Description In this work the infant Jesus inspires Mary to write her magnificat, a hymn of praise to God, while two angels crown her queen of the heavens. The crown is made of innumerable stars, alluding to the 'Stella Martina' or morning star, as some contemporary hymns called Mary. The famous original painting of this subject is in the Uffizi Gallery, Florence, and can be dated to around 1485. This copy is believed to date from the nineteenth century.
