Description Govert Dirkcsz. Camphuysen painted some still lifes, portraits and farm scenes that recall the manner of Paul Potter, with whom he is sometimes confused. Here a peasant is depicted with two cows, two goats and two sheep in front of a building. To the left the artist offers a view of a landscape with cattle and sheep in the middle ground. Camphuysen was probably born in Gorinchem around 1624. By 1643 he was described as a portrait painter working in Amsterdam. In 1652 he was working in Gottorif in Schleswig-Holstein. By 1655 he was a court painter to Queen Hedwig Eleanora in Stockholm. By 1665 he was back in Amsterdam, where he died in 1672.
