Description This French portrait of an unknown officer shows the sitter in a typical pose, with his right arm akimbo and his left hand resting on his helmet, which is placed on top of a covered table. He wears a tall, powdered wig, which although the height of fashion, seems strangely incongruous with his armour and the overall martial mood of the painting.
