Description A landscape and animal painter, Constant Troyon was an artist who racheived great success during his lifetime. He was influenced by the work of the Barbizon landscape artists and sventeenth-century Dutch painting and in the later part of his career he concentrated on the portrayal of animals, farms and labourers. This work is typical of his oeuvre, executed in a large format using a modest arrangement of colours, offering contrasts of colour, and showing his concern with the changing variations of light. The latter element of his work shows how close he was to the precursors of Impressionism. Troyon's work is well represented in museums worldwide.
