Biography There is a strong reference to figure composition in much of Cecily Brown's work. She has likened the painting to a conversation between figures, often this included an explicit depiction of sexually. She has stated that she particularly loved the work of the old masters and felt that these paintings has an incredible sexual charge, all be it in veiled or metaphorical terms. The grand theme and virtuosity of the Augustus John drawing for Moses and the Brazen Serpent (UCL No EDC 6647) also deals with the depiction of historic narrative and features an assured figure composition loaded with a powerful sensuality.
