Description This head of a middle-aged man of a dark skin, dressed in red shirt, is more likely that of an Indian sitter rather than an Arab, as originally titled. Hugo Pedersen travelled to India in the second half of 1890s; he created many studies of the heads of the local people and later published some of them in 1902 (Door den Oost-Indischen Archipel; eene kunstreis van Hugo V. Pedersen. Voor Nederland bewerkt door S. Kalff).
