Description A pool in the foreground with two cows and a moored boat, a cottage with figure in the right middle distance, trees and open fields beyond. Jules Dupré was a French painter, one of the chief members of the Barbizon school. In 1831 he came to England, where he was deeply impressed by the works of Constable. He focused on expressing movement in nature, and was especially interested in the motion of storm-clouds. Like many of his Barbizon contemporaries, Duprée was influential on the Impressionists. YORAG : 24 is painted loosely, with expressive brush strokes, characteristic of his works of 1870's.

Notes Stylistically YORAG : 24 seems to be close to the other paintings by Dupré that date to the 1870s, e.g. Landscape with Cows in Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg (no. GE-7461), Landscape in the Cleveland Museum of Art (no. 1964.291), or Landscape with Cow' in Saint Louis Art Museum (no. 136:1977, dated 1872). It seems likely that YORAG : 24 also dates to the 1870s. There is a red wax seal on the back of the panel, round with crown and star, but the content is not readable anymore.
