Description A photocopy of a typewritten letter typewritten on plain paper addressed to Mrs Leach and signed 'Setsuko', written from Tokyo; the copy subsequently stamped 'The Leach Pottery' with 'with JL's compliments, Mary' written in black biro (JL is Janet Leach, Bernard Leach's third wife); a thank you letter for a tea bowl made by Lucie Rie and gifted through the Japanese Embassy in London for the Princess's collection in Japan, then forwarded to Lucie Rie

Notes The Leach Pottery was Bernard Leach's small production pottery in St Ives, Cornwall; Leach maintained strong connections with Japan all his life; Lucie Rie's work was very well-received in Japan in an exhibition shown in Tokyo and Osaka (1989) organised by the fashion designer Issey Miyake.
