Core Record

Title io
Collection Museum of Design in Plastics: Arts University Bournemouth
Manufacturer Oliver Hemming
Date 2002
Description The io stainless steel, spherical teapot was designed by Oliver Hemming in the 2000s. It has a 1.5 litre capacity, a hinged triangular lid, and an integral rectangular spout. The handle is made of injection moulded black PPS and has a geometric shape. PPS was chosen by Oliver Hemming because it is heat resistant to 240 degrees centigrade and flame retardant, and also for its feel which is almost like stone. The teapot is part of a set including a creamer and sugar bowl and was designed as part of Oliver Hemming's University course work when he studied Silversmithing at Leicester Polytechnic in 1982. The name was changed from io to nio in 2003 after some copyright issues came to light. This example is complete with its original packaging.
