Description Dagnan (1794-1873) was a painter of landscapes and urban landscapes, who depicted various areas of France. He is considered part of the Barbizon School and appeared at the Salon several times. Barbizon painters rejected academic tradition as they wanted to achieve a truer representation of nature and life in the countryside. Dagnan's treatment of landscapes was subtle and charming, as can be seen here in the details of the fishermen and the beautiful tranquil composition showing the end of a beautiful day by the sea.
