Ease of movement in writing, a relaxed pen-hold and the discovery of a personal sureness of touch and rhythm all contribute a spirit of freedom to a work of calligraphy. Most important is an alertness during the act of writing itself that enables the writer to spring at a chance as you glimpse the possibilities for form in the unique context of the thing being made.
