No 34: Vase, 1969-72 (P.84.9)
This small stoneware vase, or deep bowl, is untypical of Svend Bayer's work and was made at the Wenford Bridge Pottery of Michael Cardew when Bayer was an assistant there. The exterior of the pot is decorated with wide bands of closely spaced vertical lines, over which there is a thick, dark brown glaze. Interest lies in the contrast between the fine and cripsly incised lines and the smoothness of the glaze.
