No 2: Jug, c.1995 (P.95.3)
A fat-bellied jug of medium height (25cm), this piece is typical of Svend Bayer's work from the last two decades. It is made of finely grogged (rough) stoneware, has running droplets of ash glaze covering the neck and shoulders only, and is wood fired, adding warmth to its natural colours. Interest is derived directly from the contrast between glazed and unglazed areas and from the thick glaze itself. The pot was made in Bayer's Devon workshop.
