James Evans

James Evans is currently a part-time lecturer in historical and critical studies at the University of Brighton where he contributes to the three-dimensional design, crafts, fashion/textiles and Visual Culture courses. He has also published more than 50 feature articles and reviews on applied art and design for various International journals: Kunsthandverk (Norway); American Craft (US); Metalsmith (US); Azure, the magazine of architecture and design (Canada); Art Aurea (Germany); Journal of Design History (UK) and Artist Newsletter (UK) among others.
He originally trained as a jeweller and maintained a studio practice for several years. His work is in museum collections in Scandinavia and Canada and is documented in catalogues and books such as 'Twentieth Century Jewellry" by Barbara Cartlidge and "The New Jewelry Trends and Traditions" by Ralph Turner and Peter Dormer. He was from 1985 until 1999 a Senior Lecturer and Area Head in jewellery and metals at universities in Canada, Norway and the UK. He has contributed to, and delivered papers at many design and crafts conferences in Europe and North America
