| Date | late 14th century - early 15th century | |
| Id Number Current Accession | F.142 | |
| Id Number Current Repository | 4337 | |
| Location Creation Site | Italy (probably Bologna) | |
| Subject | Illuminated manuscripts; | |
| Material | Paint, ink and gold leaf on parchment | |
| Notes | This is probably from the same manuscript as F.143-4 and F.13b. A major initial from a musical manuscript, judging by the size of this 'miniature' (combined with the size of the text, musical notation and staves), it does seem likely that the manuscript was a monastic choir book (probably a Gradual or Antiphonal). This would have originally been part of the Central School's Teaching Examples Collection. | |
| Object Notes | Major initial "G" in burgundy and green with gold overpainting and decoration on gold rectilinear ground. Flourishing foliate extensions with decorative ring-junctions and stylised black dots. Verso - black musical notation on red staves, with black gothic script (Latin). | |
