| Notes | It seems possible that this stone rubbing may have been made during the early 1880s, on one of two Soane tours (to Nothern France 1880 and 1882) and the Pugin Scholarship tour (1881). It seems certain that it was made before the 1890s, when this same motif reappeared in one of Lethaby's designs for a bookcase (see F.69.8). In portfolio with items F.130.1-4, F.131.1-3, F.132.1-2; these are the Goldsmiths' Hall designs, made between 1882 and 1884. | |
