A Breviary is a Service Book that contained the texts necessary for the celebration of the Divine Office. These are books often adorned with decorated or historiated initials. This would have originally been part of the Central School's Teaching Examples Collection. | |
| Object Notes | Gothic black letter script (textualis quadratta), for a text in Latin, with one major initial "D", minor initials and litterae notabiliores (with the guide-lines drawn in leadpoint). Foliate border with stylised dcorative acanthus, knot-work, berries and Rinceaux style flourishing. Verso - text (as before, but without a border). (Illumination in blue and red). | |
