Notes This drawing (unsigned), which was hung in the Principal's office at the Central School, may have actually been made much later than the date given here. Typical of drawings made in Northern France (particularly in Chartres, see page 68, Rubens) during the two Soane tours of 1880 and 1882. As with those drawings, this was obviously intended to inform and educate the maker, perhaps as a source for the future.
Object Notes View of a roof, concentrating on a particularly elaborate chimney stack and highly decorated eaves. Displays Lethaby's keen interest in architectural details and decoration. Like his studies of the leadwork and stonework at Haddon Hall and Duffield Hall (and also at Chartres), Lethaby turns what is essentially a detailed architectural study into a fine example of draughtsmanship and artistry.
