| Content And Subject Information | The vibrant, hot colour of this piece would have interested Constance Howard. These panels are made by the women of the Cuna native people of the San Blas Islands off Panama. The panels are made and incorporated into their costume. They are often made to celebrate a special occasion. A particular expert on Cuna textile is Herta Puls who has travelled widely in the area and commissioned textiles from the makers. Designs were traditional but design sources changed and later designs include aeroplanes, coke cans and other twentieth century inventions. | |
