| Description |
A boxed Freeplay FPR2S solar powered radio, with built in solar panel and winding handle, dating from the 1990s. This radio was designed to be wound up via a handle on the back as well as being powered by a solar panel on the top. It was invented by Trevor Baylis, who was inspired by the AIDS epidemic in Africa. Without access to batteries or mains power, radio messages educating the African people were not being heard. The first wind up radio was produced by Baygen in 1994 with the addition of this transparent version for the western market in 1997. |
