| Description | A woman sits, observing, on a sofa in a room full of appliances transmitting images and sound. The scene relies almost entirely on electricity. The Dutch Masters' themes of stillness, clarity and light are evident. Mara's wife is the woman sitting on the sofa, and the sofa was in the house of Alistair Grant, Mara's predecessor at the RCA and his professor when he was a student. The man with back to viewer in the forefront is an old school friend of Mara's, Vyvian Hardless and the man with sunglasses is Alf Dunn - a tutor at the RCA. Tim's father appears in the image - head only - in the pater noster lift and the woman is someone who worked in the office at the college. Richard Baker appears on the TV set on the stand - he was a popular news reader at the time and he was a friend of the Hardless family. | |
