Signed with the "Vive La Renaissnace" pseudonym used by Lethaby in 1882 for his entry in to the Goldsmiths' Hall competition. He entered the competition three years running (1882-84) and won prizes for two of those, this being one of them. (He won between £10 and £15, sources vary). | Object Notes |
Drawing which shows the section of Lethaby's design for a salad bowl in silver, with notes, specifications in Lethaby's hand. Design at bottom inside of bowl which was to be "engraved", a pattern of roses, other flowers and foliage and a shield with lion motif (central). A band of roses and small dragons to run around the side. Again, the influence of 16th century Anglo-Flemish work is apparent. |
